Taken as a whole, the following series of 14 documents below present a tried and tested way for therapeutic practitioners to design, implement and administrate a highly ranked Professional Internet Presence at no cost whatsoever.
Doc01 Connect TherapistUK NET, Users Connection Guidelines A full list of instructions to enable you to set up your TherapistUK connection, using DUN (Dial Up Networking) on a PC running Windows 95 or Above. The following has been written assuming the reader has limited knowledge of the Internet. They may be either followed from step 1 or referred to if any problems or difficulties are encountered. Therapist-UK.net - CONNECTION ON WINDOWS 95 OR ABOVE. 1. Double-click the 'My Computer' icon located on your Desktop. 2. Double-click on 'Dial-Up Networking'. 3. Double-click on 'Make New Connection'. 4. Select your modem type and give the connection a name you will easily remember (such as TherapistUK or My Internet). Click the 'Next' button. 5. At the prompt type in the connection phone number, 0845 66 14781 and click 'Next'. 6. Check that the name of the connection is okay then click 'Finish'. This will create an icon in your Dial-Up Networking folder with that name. 7. To make a handy shortcut, drag the new icon to a convenient place (e.g. the Desktop area). 8. To connect to TherapistUK NET using the connection you just created, either double-click it's icon in My Computer -> Dial-Up Networking folder or use the Desktop shortcut if you created it. 9. At this stage you are asked for a User name and a Password. Enter your Connection User ID and your Connection password. Tick the box that says Save Password or you'll need to enter it every time you connect. 10. Click CONNECT to dial-up to the internet and then load a browser program such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer or an E-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook Express. Therapist-UK.net - CONNECTION ON MACINTOSH OPERATING SYSTEM 8 AND ABOVE. This information applies to MacOS 8 and above. You can check if your machine is using MacOS 8 or above by clicking ABOUT THIS MACINTOSH on the Apple Menu At this point I assume that you have: a). Signed up at TherapistUK NET b). Your Connection User ID and Connection Password details to hand. 1. Double-click the 'Internet Setup Assistant' icon located in your Internet folder. 2. Click 'Yes' to the question 'Would you like to set up your computer to use the internet?' 3. Click 'Yes' to the question 'Do you already have an Internet Account?' and click the right arrow to continue. 4. Name the connection configuration 'TherapistUK', make sure 'Modem' is chosen and click the right arrow. 5. Accept the defaults for modem settings and click the right arrow to continue. 6. Enter 0845 66 14781 for the phone number. 7. At this stage you are asked for a Connection User ID and Connection Password. 8. Click the right arrow. 9. Click 'No' to the question 'Is there an IP address for this configuration?' and click the right arrow. 10. Keep the default of No when asked whether you need a PPP Script, then click the right arrow to continue. 11. Do not enter anything into the Domain Name Server page, click the right arrow. 12. Do not enter anything into the e-mail address screen and click the right arrow to continue. 13. Do not enter anything into the Newsgroup Host page and click the right arrow. 14. Click 'No' to the proxy server question and click the right arrow. 15. On the final page of the Assistant, press 'Go Ahead' to set the computer up for use with TherapistUK NET. 16. To connect to Therapist-UK.net, just load your web browsing program such as Netscape, Internet Explorer or your E-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook Express. If your computer does not automatically dial the internet, use the program called REMOTE ACCESS STATUS which can be found on the Apple Menu. This program is used to manually connect and disconnect from the internet. Doc01 E-mail This document explains the procedure for adding new e-mail addresses to your computer using Microsoft Outlook Express on Windows 95 and above PC's and Macintosh computers. Different versions of Outlook Express may vary slightly from the information shown below and I recommend you use the extensive help available from within the program by pressing F1 (PC) or selecting OUTLOOK EXPRESS HELP from the HELP menu (Macintosh) while in the program. OUTLOOK 2000 Users can use create new Identity from within the program. OUTLOOK EXPRESS - WINDOWS 95 OR ABOVE At this point I assume that you have: (a) Signed up to TherapistUK NET (b) Set up the connection on your computer. (c) Used the sign-up process to select a new e-mail address. (d) Your E-mail User ID and E-mail Password details are to hand. 1. Load Outlook Express. 2. From the tool bar select Tools, then Accounts. Please substitute my personal information for your own. 3. Click ADD and then select "Mail". Enter the name you want to appear on outgoing e-mail. Example: Carl Eaton or Carl Eaton BACP Accredited Counsellor. Click NEXT. 4. Enter the TherapistUK NET e-mail address you wish to add ( carleaton@counsellor-uk.net ) and click NEXT. 5. Type mail.counsellor-uk.net into the POP3 incoming mail server name box and mail.counsellor-uk.net into the SMTP outgoing address box. 6. Type in your Connection / User Name ID and Connection / User Name Password. This information was included in the e-mail you recieved from TherapistUK NET. If you do not have / or have misplaced this information, e-mail: support@therapist-uk.net. Click NEXT. 7. Choose a name for the account that you can remember. Example: Counsellor-uk.net's e-mail. Click NEXT. 8. Select "Connect using my phone line" in the Connection Type screen. Click NEXT. 9. Select "Use existing dial up connection" and select Therapist-UK.net (or the name that you gave your Therapist-UK.net dial up connection). Click NEXT, then FINISH. 10. To send and receive e-mail, simply double click the Outlook Express icon and connect to Therapist-UK.net when prompted. 11. Outlook Express has a great deal of on-line help available by pressing F1 when in the program. OUTLOOK EXPRESS - iMAC, PowerMac or Macintosh At this point I assume that you have: (a) Signed up to TherapistUK NET (b) Set up the connection on your computer. (c) Used the sign-up process to select a new e-mail address. (d) Your E-mail User ID and E-mail Password details are to hand. Please substitute my personal information for your own. 1. Run the Outlook Express E-mail program. You'll normally find this in the Internet folder. 2. Click on TOOLS and then ACCOUNTS on the top menu bar. 3. Click 'I already have an internet e-mail account' then click the right arrow. 4. Enter the display name you want to appear on outgoing e-mail. Example: Carl Eaton or Carl Eaton BACP Accredited Counsellor. Click the right arrow. 5. Now enter the e-mail address you wish to add ( carleaton@counsellor-uk.net ) and click the right arrow. 6. Enter MAIL.COUNSELLOR-UK.NET for your incoming mail server and set the type to POP. 7. Enter MAIL.COUNSELLOR-UK.NET for your outgoing mail server, click the right arrow. 8. Type in your E-mail user ID ( therapy????? ) and E-mail Password ( ?????? ). Click NEXT. 9. Choose a name for the account that you can remember. Example: Counsellor-uk.net's e-mail. Click FINISH to complete the process. 10. Outlook Express has a great deal of on-line help available by selecting OUTLOOK EXPRESS HELP from the HELP menu while in the program. For TherapistUK NET Members using Netscape a quick guide to setting up your e-mail account on the Netscape Communicator for Windows or Mac 1. Run Netscape. 2. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences. 3. If you are using an Apple Macintosh, select identity from 'Mail & Newsgroups' and make sure that the 'Use Internet Config' is disabled. 4. Select Mail Servers from Mail & Newsgroups. 5. If there is already an Incoming Mail Server listed in the 'Incoming Mail Servers' section then click on it and click 'Edit' otherwise click 'Add'. 6. In the Mail Server info window, settings should be as follows: Server Name : mail.counsellor-uk.net Server Type : POP User Name : Your E-mail User ID ( therapy?????? ) 7. If you wish your password to be saved, enable this option though you do not enter your password yet. 8. If you would like your e-mail to test automatically enable Check for mail every and then select a number of minutes. 9. Once you are satisfied with the settings click 'OK'. 10. The preferences window in the Outgoing Mail Server area should be set as follows: Outgoing mail (SMTP) server mail.counsellor-uk.net Outgoing mail server user name Your E-mail user ID ( therapy?????? ) 11. Once you are happy with your settings, you may then click 'OK'. To send and receive e-mail, run Netscape Messenger from within Navigator. |
